NYYM Seeks a Communications Director
Do you:
- love crafting messages that inspire and connect people?
- enjoy writing, editing, and telling stories that make a difference?
- want to use your communication and creative skills to strengthen community?
- care about graphics that are clear and engaging?
- like to juggle different projects—planning, writing, creating, and collaborating?
- feel energized by a mission-driven environment that values integrity and care?
If these sound like you, this may be the perfect opportunity.
As the Communications Director for New York Yearly Meeting (NYYM), you’ll lead communications for a small, vibrant, Quaker nonprofit. You’ll share stories of faith and action, create engaging content for print and digital channels, and help connect Quaker communities across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. You’ll write, edit, plan, and collaborate with colleagues and volunteers on publications like the Weekly Update email newsletter, social media, Spark (our quarterly magazine).
You’ll bring your strong writing skills, creative ideas, and ability to organize projects from concept to completion. You’ll also get to work in a setting where kindness, collaboration, and reflection are a core part of the daily culture.
About our organization
New York Yearly Meeting (NYYM) consists of the Quakers and their congregations (meetings) in New York State and parts of New Jersey and Connecticut. NYYM staff provide organizational support to Quaker meetings and to our committees that foster community, deepen our worship, and share our Ministry in the world. These include addressing racism, climate change, indigenous rights, prison justice, and gun violence. We strive to be a multigenerational, multiracial, multicultural community grounded in Quaker faith and practice, and seek to treat one another with care and respect as we strive to faithfully carry out our Leadings from Spirit.
What we’re looking for
You may be a Quaker, familiar with Quakerism, or open to learning about it. You understand how to communicate authentically, balancing tradition and innovation. You can write clearly for different audiences, manage multiple projects and deadlines, and work collaboratively with others. You’re organized, self-motivated, and attentive to detail. Graphic or layout experience is helpful but not required; strong writing and storytelling skills are essential. Familiarity with NYYM is desirable but not required.
